Show Crush: BIKINIRADIO @ Church 2/16

February 13, 2009

BIKINIRADIO is making its live debut at Church on Feb. 16. The band is a new branch of the Cult of Point Break Society’s Television Tribute shows that we wrote about (and posted video of) this past Fall. They are keeping their cards close to their chests here, so there’s not a lot of media to check out, but a privileged guy like me has, of course, heard quite a bit of what they’re up to and they are guaranteed to unveil some of their rocketing, melodic, post-punk, angular tunes, which are (not surprisingly) shaping up to show the influences of bands like Television and Joy Division, already declared to be the next Cult of Point Break Society target.

BIKINIRADIO is fronted by vocalist (and Boston journalist) James O’Brien, well known in a past life for his aggressive solo work and his heavy tour schedule, which saw him landing opening slots for artists including Andrew Bird and Dan Bern. The whole band consists of veteran players: Rich Adkins, currently of Boston garage-rockers The In Out slams the drums, Travis Richter and Matt Girard, both members of The Motion Sick (disclosure: the band I am in) play guitar and bass respectively, and Morgan Terrinoni adds a second guitar to build the driving melodic interplay we might expect from post-rockers.
