C.D. On Songs: Barra Kutta – "Bring You Back"

May 31, 2010

Man, Barra Kutta doesn’t appear to have any shows coming up, but can someone please head over to BK Headquarters and give them a kick in the pants? Tell them to get out there and play some live gigs for us. It’s just not fair for them to keep this sound caged up inside. Come on, Barra Kutta. We bet your practice room is getting awwwfullll small. And hot.

We’re not sure why Barra Kutta is having a hard time in the song “Bring You Back.” Frankly, they probably wouldn’t have to try that hard. The musical presence of this song is magnetic; as if it has one of those strong and intriguing personalities that just makes you decide that you need to know it. I mean, you wanna be friends with it. you know what I mean.

The song comes in the door sporting a pseudo-new-wave look, as stated by the drum beat, a two-measure repeater of “beat, hits” that gives the listener immediate purchase – we have something to hold on to when the meat of the song hits. The larger identity of this song is something a little more untamed than your classic skinny-tie new-wave ensemble.

This song is not all beat and style; it has a lifeforce as well. Despite the fact that the vocals are doubled/tripled/infinitied in the production, they are not dehumanized or distanced from the listener. The vocals actually complete this song’s well-rounded and magnetic personality. In the end, “Bring You Back” is magically delicious on all fronts.

Want to submit your band’s song to C.D. On Songs?

To be reviewed in a C.D. On Songs column:

*Be a Boston-based band/artist.

*Email a single mp3/m4a/etc. (or a download link to one) to cdonsongs (at) gmail (dot) com, with the subject line “C.D. on Songs” (DO NOT send us a bunch of songs and make us pick, we will ignore you). We require a file – not a streaming link.

*Include album cover art if you have any. If you don’t, a band photo or logo is acceptable.

*Tell us when you want to see it! Give us the date of your show and we’ll make sure it runs as close as possible to that day. No kidding.

We will assume that we have your permission to make the song downloadable on Boston Band Crush (readers will want to hear it, after all). If that’s not ok with you, say so and provide us with a link to the song on an embeddable player like ReverbNation – something we can include in the post (and not just link to).
