Garage Show Crush: Reigning Sound (NC) / Movers and Shakers / Triple Thick (CD Release) / Sister Spaceman at TT’s, Tomorrow (6/18)!

June 17, 2010

This is HUGE for Garage Punkers all over this fair city! Southern boys Reigning Sound take to the stage at TT the Bears on Friday for their triumphant return to Boston after 5 years. Formed by the heart wrenching vocalist Greg Cartwright (Oblivians) in 2001, the band has released a number records over the years. Their most recent release Love and Curses came out in August of 2009, and tomorrow we get to hear what those songs sound like loud and live.

The night also sees the highly anticipated release of the new self-titled CD by long-time local garage heroes Triple Thick. I think this lines up to be their 176th release in the past decade. Naw, but seriously, these guys have got A LOT of material. Recorded by David Curtiss at Studio Chevre in Cambridge, the record posts a hearty 16 songs in less than 25 minutes. With song’s such as “Screwdriver”, “Miller Too”, and “She’s Difficult”, the band stay true to their form of short bursts of energy pontificating on girls, beer and rock. The longest track on the record is the final track which covers the famous “Jesus and Tequila” from Minutemen.

Still fresh off their tour with Dan Webb and the Spiders, Movers and Shakers bring their rootsy garage rock stylings back to the stage for some hip shaking action. You love these guys!

Opening the night is bluesy garage rock duo Sister Spaceman, who have been keeping up appearances around town and keeping Mr. Airplane Man fans happy. Rumor has it that Triple Thick recordist Dave Curtiss will be joining the ladies on stage for a couple of numbers, so get there early!
