Stripped Down Show Crush: Leesa (Naked On Roller Skates) / Anne (Pray For Polanski) / MacKenzie & Stu (This Blue Heaven) at the Armory Wednesday

July 13, 2010

The Armory in Somerville is really making a name for itself this year, bringing diverse acts to its café stage for intimate, stripped down sets. The café is small but not claustrophobic, there’s plenty of free parking (unless there’s a show in the big room, in which case it might get hairy) and it’s just a leisurely stroll down the street to the Highland Kitchen (this last part is important because while awesome, the Armory’s shows are early and the modus operandi has been to move the party en masse to the HK once the music is done).

Wednesday evening brings a wonderful lineup to the small stage. Leesa Coyne of Naked On Roller Skates will start off the night with her incredibly fun, soulful pop followed by Pray For Polanski’s garage folk powerhouse Anne Warnock, fresh off her big German tour (er, brother’s wedding in Germany), fills the middle slot. MacKenzie Outlund and Stu Dietz of This Blue Heaven are set to finish off the night and are sure to charm their way into everyone’s hearts with their finely crafted melodies. There’s also a rumor going around that Jason Dunn of The Luxury will be making a special appearance, as if this bill wasn’t packed enough. Sure it’s a weeknight, but this will be an early one, you can see an amazing show and still be home – or at Highland Kitchen – before bedtime. Things like that don’t happen too often, so take advantage when you can.
