One Night Band Crush: Jess Collins

July 21, 2010

Visit the One Night Band website and the Facebook event to find out more about One Night Band 2010 on August 21 at the Middle East downstairs. Check back here each day for more interviews with our participants!

Jess Collins sings vox and plays keys for Mellow Bravo. She also provides backing vox and keys for The Murder Mile and Jim Healey. She fronts her own band, The Static Dynamic (currently on hiatus but hopefully awakening again soon).

BBC: What Boston rockers, past or present, would you most like to have a One Night Band with?
JC: Tom Scholz from the band Boston. The dude could play everything, including a mean rock organ!

BBC: What Boston rockers, past or present, would you most fear having a One Night Band with?
JC: Sully Erna

BBC: Did you attend One Night Band last year? If so, what was the highlight? If not, what do you anticipate the event to be like?
JC: I did not attend last year! I’m thinking this year is going to be a great time. A positive hard-working (but fun) day for a great cause.

BBC: What is your normal song or part writing process? Will writing three songs in a single day drastically differ from your usual approach to creating music?
JC: Yes, it will definitely be a new approach. A more fast-paced one. Mellow Bravo is able to write songs pretty efficiently as a band but we are all used to playing together. With new band members it will be interesting to start from scratch and see how we gel.

BBC: What Boston band do you have the biggest crush on right now?
JC: Zip Tie Handcuffs! They are opening our record release in September. If you haven’t heard them yet, make a move.
