One Night Band Crush: Beth Holub

August 4, 2010

Visit the One Night Band website and the Facebook event to find out more about One Night Band 2010 on August 21 at the Middle East downstairs. Check back here each day for more interviews with our participants!

Beth has been playing and performing in symphonies and bands on the viola (that’s right, the viola) for 18 years, and like most good violists, she also plays the violin. And like most good violinists, she also plays electric bass.

Beth performs or records with Eksi Ekso, The Sneaks, The Luxury, Aloud, Brendan Boogie, and Dino Dna.

BBC: What Boston rockers, past or present, would you most like to have a One Night Band with?
BH: I would have loved to do something with Morphine, the darker and more sonorous the better! I used to listen to Papas Fritas when I was a wee high school freshman back in Tucson, and still love listening to their records.

BBC: What Boston rockers, past or present, would you most fear having a One Night Band with?
BH: I fear no one.

BBC: Did you attend One Night Band last year? If so, what was the highlight? If not, what do you anticipate the event to be like?
BH: Last year I was at TT’s for Caspian’s CD release. I anticipate mayhem, utter mayhem, based on what I heard about year one.

BBC: What is your normal song or part writing process? Will writing three songs in a single day drastically differ from your usual approach to creating music?
BH: Either on viola or bass, I start simple with my parts, then listen for what melody I hear should be happening. I like challenges to do as best as I can in a finite time.

BBC: What Boston band do you have the biggest crush on right now?
BH: Well, considering I have worked my way this far in only two years without any bridge burning, I am going to plead the 5th so as not to make anyone jealous.
