One Night Band Crush: Mike Mirabella

August 10, 2010

Visit the One Night Band website and the Facebook event to find out more about One Night Band 2010 on August 21 at the Middle East downstairs. Check back here each day for more interviews with our participants!

Mike Mirabella is a drummer. He enjoys heated debates over set lists, song tempos and “where the bridge should go.” He has entered the ring with members of Scamper, The Brendan Boogie Band, The Future Everybody and The Rationales. On August 21st 4 lucky musicians will be chosen at random to be next.

BBC: What Boston rockers, past or present, would you most like to have a One Night Band with?
MM: Hmm…in this current Boston rock scene it seems that everyone is in every one’s band, filling in for each other and starting super groups. By the end of the year my goal is to play with every musician in Boston ever. This show should keep me on target.

BBC: What Boston rockers, past or present, would you most fear having a One Night Band with?
MM: Pete Stone.

BBC: Did you attend One Night Band last year? If so, what was the highlight? If not, what do you anticipate the event to be like?
MM: I was there! I walked in thinking that it was either going to be a complete train wreck or maybe the bands would actually pull it off. I think the train wreck would have been more fun so I was a little let down at how well all of the bands did. There’s always this year!

BBC: What is your normal song or part writing process? Will writing three songs in a single day drastically differ from your usual approach to creating music?
MM: Well when I’m writing songs or drum parts for that matter I usually like to get as close to the “finished product” as I can before playing the song out. I Imagine this process will be very different in the sense that we will probably be working out a first draft and then putting some finishing touches on it. Not unlike I’m doing right now with this interview.

BBC: What Boston band do you have the biggest crush on right now?
MM: I was recently rocked pretty sufficiently by 2 bands: Hey Now, Morris Fader and This Blue Heaven. They can fight to the finish or I’ll just have to love them both.
