Information Crush: Amy’s Shows List

September 16, 2010

It definitely feels like fall is in the air, not only is the air a little crisper but there are lots of shows heating up the venues around town. On Thursday there’s a great local line-up at TTs with The Port Charles Quintet, The Weisstronauts, MARS and Brownboot. Get there early you don’t want to miss any of these bands, it’s gonna be a fun night. If you’re in the mood for something from the ’80’s, The Alarm are at Showcase Live (Come on down and meet your maker, come on down and make a stand…). On Friday Those Darlins are at TTs with their guests The Strange Boys and Gentleman Jesse and His Men. This should a killer show, Those Darlins are twangy chicks with attitude from Tennessee (check out their song “The Whole Damn Thing”, so fun). Also on Friday over at the Cantab, The Varmints are celebrating their CD Release along with Eric Martin and the Illyrians, Corolla Deville and more for a little old school Boston rock. If you need a little pop music try the Lily Pad for One Happy Island and Cotton Candy. On Saturday afternoon, Union Square in Somerville is hosting the Urban Country Fair with the Pretty Pennies and Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling, lots of fun for free and runs from 3p-7p. Later on Saturday night there’s the Virgo a Go-Go show with Three Day Threshold, The Motion Sick and Thick as Thieves at TTs and at Precinct there’s Fox Pass, Doom Buggies, Liz Borden and Leon Rich. On Sunday there’s a cool show at the Magic Room in Brighton with Thee Oh Sees, Thick Shakes, The Human Tail and the Wood Colts. Monday night at ZuZu’s has a free show with Sam Beebe and the Morning Glories and Odessa Rose (just saw Odessa Rose recently at an Americana show and they were really good). On Tuesday the super Superchunk are at Royale with opening band Versus. Also on Tuesday Chrissie Hynde (of the Pretenders!) and JP Jones do their country thing at Showcase Live. On Wednesday, the Banditas finish up their residency at the Plough and Stars along with their guests Andrea Gillis and the Volcano Kings. And if you’re looking for some music from the UK, you have the choice of Field Music at Great Scotts or The Boxer Rebellion at the Middle East Upstairs.
