Show Crush: Virgo A Go Go with Three Day Threshold, the Motion Sick, Thick As Thieves, and more at TT’s Saturday

September 17, 2010

Saturday night brings the third annual Virgo A Go Go festival to TT the Bear’s, a celebration of music and comedy complete with dancers, pirates and two stages of entertainment featuring: Three Day Threshold, who play patently American rock ‘n roll – a combination of early Sun Records showcases, ‘70s southern rock, Vietnam era protest songs, NY art rock, Superbowl halftime shows, Steve McQueen movies, bar room sing-alongs and more than a bit of bluegrass that blasts from the stage with the authority of Johnny Cash’s middle finger. The Motion Sick, who will be playing their last show for the foreseeable future, having decided to focus on the myriad other projects members have started over the last few years. TMS play their set like a musical Rube Goldberg machine, disparate elements and influences that make up each song performing the assigned task that, combined with the others, creates a chain reaction that results in delight and wonder. Incredibly witty, intelligent, self deprecating, historically accurate, quirky, catchy and many more descriptive adjectives; the Motion Sick are among the most talented musicians in Boston today, so let’s send them off with a bang. Thick As Thieves offer a rock show that builds and crashes over the crowd like waves, but they do it in a way that never seems haphazard or thrown together. Each note is well thought out and placed in just the right spot. They’ve got no problem adding a country twang to a riff that might be getting a little too metal tinged, or tossing some ambient rock elements into a song that you thought was going to be a straight up honky tonk rocker.

These three will be joined by Moons, there will be an acoustic showcase between sets featuring Zack Taylor, Billy Letendre, Shane Dog and others from the second stage, the comedy of Kev and Col and of course the previously mentioned Virgo A Go Go dancers and a pirate.

8pm / 18+ / $10
