Information Crush: Amy’s Shows List

October is off to a rockin’ start. On Thursday at Showcase Live in Foxboro, The Hoodoo Gurus bring their infectious songs all the way from Australia. Get there early (8p) to catch Downbeat 5 tear up the stage. If you don’t want to travel so far, rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson is at Johnny D’s and Atwoods has Mascara and Dennis Brennan performing. Start your Friday off at the newly revised Freaky Tiki Friday at Think Tank in Porter Square. Festivities begin at 5p and go until about 8p and features yummy umbrella drinks and Brother Cleve spinning cool tunes and showing groovy videos. Later on Friday night the Fountains of Wayne are at the Paradise with opener Marshall Crenshaw doing a solo set. Also on Friday at the Rosebud are Secret Hearts, The Konks and Wicked Whiskey and at the Milky Way are The Battleships Cometh, St Helena, Ginger Ibex and This Blue Heaven. On Saturday afternoon head over to the Plough and Stars for a 4p book signing with John Horvorka (Wah Hey! It’s the guy from the Turbines) and if you stay at the Plough you can see Barrence Whitfield and the Monkey Hips at 10p. Also on Saturday, the Cantab has I Have Ears, The Amboys, My Own Worst Enemy, Shakespeare Riots and The Beach Comb-Overs (plan to get there at 8p to catch the Beach Comb-Overs and stay for My Own Worst Enemy). While Township, Sidewalk Driver and Watts are at the Rosebud and The New Collisions and The Charms are at Great Scotts. On Sunday, The Octopus Project is at TTs and The Asa Brebner Band is at Toad for free. Tuesday night at Toad is The Mass Ave Musical All Star Jam with Andrea Gillis, John Powhida, Chris Cote Allan Sheinfeld and more guests. On Wednesday the Paradise has a punk flashback night with the Dead Kennedys and at The Middle East Downstairs Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan (she formerly of Belle and Sebastian and he formerly of the Screaming Trees) perform their hauntingly beautiful music.
