Tribute Crush: Billy Ruane Memorial Birthday Bash takes over Central Square next Wednesday (11/17)

November 12, 2010

Next Wednesday night, the stages at the Middle East downstairs and TT the Bears will be lit up with the spirit of Billy Ruane, as many of the musicians and friends that Billy supported and loved throughout the years gather to make a ruckus in his honor. Whether you were a longtime friend, causal acquaintance or just knew about that “wild man” that was at all the shows, this is the ultimate tribute to the ultimate one-of-a-kind mastermind.

Billy would have celebrated his 53rd birthday this past week. As fate would have it, in celebration we return to the location where so much of his legacy began over 20 years ago, Central Square. As legend goes, Billy threw his annual birthday bash at TTs in 1987, and the party got so big that the spillover crowd and music was taken in by the Sater brothers next door at the Middle East. You have Billy to thank for helping (quite literally) usher live music into that now venerable institution.

The lineup is still being finalized so check the Facebook Event for the most recent details. Artists on board so far:

Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, Buffalo Tom, John Langford, Banditas, Eric Martin, Pat McGrath, Stephen Fredette, Peter Wolf, Hallelujah the Hills, Drug Rug, Nina Violet, Fred the Donkey, Willie Alexander, Hilken Mancini and Thalia Zedek, Chris Brokaw, Randy Black, Joe Harvard, Linda Viens and Catherine Coleman, The Raging Teens, Jenny Dee and the Deelinquents, Emily Forsythe, Frank Morey, Rockin Bob Cenci, Michael Patric Macdonald (speaking), Jimmy Ryan and Sean Staples, Reid Paley, Bell and the Bees, Drew O’Doherty, Tanya Donelly and Skeggy Kendall.
