Show/Fundraiser Crush: Boston Counter Cultural Compass benefit tonight at Great Scott with Camp Island / No Way Jose / Rene / The Craters

December 8, 2010

You know my favorite thing about this crushing gig? (Besides the unicorn-lovin’?)  Finding new awesome music and new awesome folks who’re also getting the word out about the awesome music happening all over this awesome town.

Example:  I just checked out the Boston Counter Cultural Compass, a free monthly newsletter of rock & roll happenings in the area, which you can pick up at your local record store or coffee shop.  Recent issues of the Compass have included shows by indie rock, lo-fi, hip hop, psych folk, and just all kinds of artists – PLUS healthy support for the DIY scene and local college radio shows.  Awesome, right?  Told you.

The Boston Counter Cultural Compass is the brainchild of Christians & Lions member Sam Potrykus and is fueled solely by his music love and DIY dedication. To help raise funds to support the newsletter, WTBU‘s Left of the Dial has put together a – yes, awesome – show tonight at Great Scott.  Acts include pop-punkers Camp Island, garage punk rockers No Way Jose (with members from Doomstar and Amoroso), Rene (“whose beats,” Sam says, “you want inside you”), and experimental poppers The Craters.  If you’d like to contribute to the Compass (in dollars or DIY hours) but can’t make it to tonight’s show, just fill out the form here.

I totally just “liked” The Craters.  Keep the awesome coming, Boston.
