Rumble Crush: Keep Me Conscious

March 30, 2011

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble begins on Sunday, April 3. Check back for our daily interviews with participating Rumble bands leading up to the event. Full schedule here.

BBC: Introduce the members of your band.
Daniel Maleck (guitar); Rob Wu (drums); Bob Bowser (vocals); Maty Vamp (bass); John Wiley (guitar)

BBC: What does it mean to you to participate in the 32nd Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble?
KMC: This contest is older than we are; a major thread in the diverse tapestry that is the Boston music scene we’ve come into. It’s an honor to put our mark on that. We’re probably less concerned with a win / loss and more concerned with getting in front of faces we might not otherwise reach. There aren’t a lot of bands we’ve played with, so it’s kind of like getting together with the neighbors you never knew that ended up being really cool.

BBC: Do you believe in the Rumble curse?
KMC: No.

BBC: Got any tricks up your sleeve for your set, or will it be business as usual?
KMC: It’s not likely that we’ll be running out and grabbing fireworks, strippers and candy for
the stage, but we might spend a little extra time crafting the flow and pace of our set.

BBC: How far do you think you’ll go in the competition?
KMC: We pride ourselves on being a great live band, but there are so many interesting artists as well as a number of factors to be judged on. We’ll definitely get as far as we can.

BBC: What’s your bet on who will take the crown?
KMC: Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents. The song they had on Boston Emissions last night was great, they seem to maintain a strong Boston-buzz, and Jen D. got Female Vocalist Of The Year at the BMAs. We’d expect they’ll live up to the hype.

BBC: What other competing band are you most excited to see?
KMC: Really hard to pick 1 out of 23, so let’s just say it’s a jump ball between Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents and The Year Million.

BBC: What band would you have picked to compete this year that isn’t?
KMC: We’re working on lining up some rad spring/summer stuff with our buds in Herra Terra,
who were BMA Nominees, so that would’ve been cool. They’re real fun live. It’s also always a blast with our jam space roomies, Roman Traffic. We’re big fans of them. And their music. [Editor’s note: Roman Traffic competed in 2009 under their previous name, Gravehaven.]

BBC: Who’s your favorite past winner?
KMC: We really liked a recent winner, The Luxury.

BBC: Got any smack-talk for your competition?
KMC: Yo’ mama keeps such a nice home, we’re glad to take our shoes off at the door.
