Show Crush: Tom Waits tribute at PA’s tomorrow

April 29, 2011

Tom Waits, man, Tom Waits. How does one describe his voice? Distinctive? Unique? Singular? None of those adjectives are wrong exactly, but none feel quite right either. I guess if I had to I’d say he sounds like rushing flood waters scraping trees and broken glass over a gravel road, it’s a voice that can only come with a lifetime of cigarettes and bourbon. In his honor, and to celebrate his recent induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, PA’s Lounge in Somerville is offering up a tribute tomorrow night. They’ve rounded up a real rogues gallery of Boston musicians to accomplish this, and it really is an impressive group, aside from Waits himself, I don’t know who else they could’ve chosen to pay homage to these songs. It’s shaping up to be an amazing night, so get there early, down some bourbon and sing along if you’d like. I’ll be the fellow in the hat losing his mind to “Way Down in the Hole” if you want to buy me a drink.
