Show Crush: Highway Ghosts / Swinging Steaks at the Lizard Lounge this Saturday

May 19, 2011

The Lizard Lounge would surely make the short list of places to be at the end of the world, right? Well whether the Rapture occurs Saturday or not, Saturday night’s show with Highway Ghosts and The Swinging Steaks will leave you knowing you are in the right place, pairing a a band that blazed the trail for the current Americana revival with one of the bands in the heart of the current movement.

Returning to the scene of their raucous March sell out, Highway Ghosts share the stage with one of their major influences, The Swinging Steaks. To call the Steaks veterans of the local Americana scene would be an understatement; their South Side of the Sky cassette bounced Uncle Tupelo out of its permanent place in my car tape deck way back in 1993.  Their smooth delivery of road-weary, reflective songs should shine in the Lizard’s comfy environs.

The Ghosts have been climbing up the revitalized New England Americana scene over the past couple of years with their solid songs, memorable performances and perfect blending of country meets old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll with a hint of jangle. Dennis Barry and David DeLuca trade lead vocals, delivering songs that will stick in your head for days.
