Somerville Band Crush: ArtBeat 2011

July 15, 2011

You know summer is in full swing when the outdoor concerts start. Don’t get us wrong, we absolutely love seeing our rock shows huddled together in dark, sweaty clubs; but every once in a while it’s nice to step off the beer soaked, concrete floor and onto a nice patch of grass. Wouldn’t you rather be cooled by a refreshing breeze than an ancient air conditioning system? Don’t you think it’d be sorta nice to see some familiar bands in the daylight? That’s exactly what the Somerville Arts Council has in mind for tonight and tomorrow as they bring their annual ArtBeat festival to the parks and streets of the city.

Mean Creek, The Michael J. Epstein Memorial Library, Sam Reid and the Riot Act, Dub Apocalypse, Somerville Symphony Orkestar, The Cinnamon Fuzz, Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers, Tall Heights and others will be performing over the course of the festival (full schedule below). In addition to all that music, there will be dance exhibitions, child-friendly performances, fire sculpture, puppet shows, acrobatics demonstrations, storytelling, roaming performers, craft vendors, food and more. Make a day of it if you’d like.*
