Residency Crush: Jaggery at the Lizard Lounge tomorrow night

August 2, 2011

Patrons of the Lizard Lounge will be captivated by the intoxicating presence of Jaggery for the better part of August as the band sets up shop for a Wednesday residency at the intimate venue. The first of four shows will include a performance from Jaggery, along with solo charmer Schooltree. Settle in for the night with a beer and late night snack – sweet potatoes fries + veggie burger + good ol’ Sam Adams will be my pick! The relaxed vibe of this Porter Square basement venue creates the perfect mood for the evening’s lineup.

Starting off the night is composer, performer, Steamy Bohemian and audio engineer/producer dynamo Lainey Schaulbaum aka Schooltree, who will command your ears with her melting pot of sounds. After checking out a few of her songs, my heart was racing with pure joy. It’s as if Imogen Heap, Tori Amos, and even Danny Elfman himself had made an appearance throughout Schooltree’s music.

Jaggery, the experimental art-rock collective who claim they “work the dark edge of a genre-defying musical style,” will be showcasing their dynamic collection of sounds. Lead vocalist Mali Sastri will at one moment sweep you off your feet with her smooth-swaying, sultry vocals, and then unexpectedly pull you down into a dark, exotic atmosphere the next.

In coming weeks, Jaggery will invite Honeycircuit (8/17), Foolish Ida (8/24) and Hello Dust (8/31) to join them.
