Show Crush: Girls Rock Camp showcase at Brighton Music Hall tomorrow

August 12, 2011

Girls Rock Camp Boston is finishing up their August session tomorrow at the Brighton Music Hall. After an amazing week learning how to play instruments, write songs and perform, the newly formed bands of girls age 8 – 16 are ready to debut. HiTop, Ticklish Tulips, Aristokrats, Open Minds, Mostly Harmless, Arrow Heart, Punk Eye, The Blue Stars, The Mix Up, Night and Day, Blue Ruggies, and Amplified Rose will each make their world premiere on the Allston stage. We say fill the place up and make them feel like the rockstars they know they are.

Girls Rock Camp Boston is a non-profit that exists “help build self-esteem and leadership skills for girls through music education and performance” and eventually “stimulate and enrich the communities surrounding us and provide space to foster and showcase that power.” Basically, GRCB is an organization that gets it. Our own Ashley Willard has joined a host of volunteers this summer who, along with permanent camp goddesses Hilken Mancini, Nora Allen-Wiles and Mary Lou Lord, helped to shape the lives of music-minded local girls. This is important work and we’d like to see it continue for a very long time, so head over to their donations page and help out if you can.

Check out the amazing Röck Daizeez performance from the July session here.
